A few minutes ago, I had no idea what to write on. Or so I thought. But as I began to write about my inability to write, I gained clarity and more ideas to write on.

Ideas are everywhere. Why ideas seem to be in short supply is because you choose to remain inflexible.

Over time, you have trained your subconscious mind to function in a particular way. This promotes automaticity but can also be the bane of your creativity and novelty.

If and when you have no idea on what to write, don’t blame it on writer’s block.

Writer’s block is a mix of laziness, complacency, and depleted motivation.

It is not necessarily a lack of ideas or your inability to develop one. The very fact that you think you lack an idea is an idea in itself.

As a writing coach, I get asked a lot by my students how they can generate ideas to write on daily. I am never shy to tell them that ideas are everywhere.

What makes the prolific writer different from the spontaneous writer is that one is trained to see beyond what is obvious, while the other waits for sparks and bursts of inspiration to get going.

Creativity lies in the details that are easily glossed over. Your mind is constantly in a state of creative claustrophobia with so many ideas trapped in and very little room for expression.

Creativity lies in the details that are easily glossed over.

How to write when you have no idea what to write on.

Step 1: Start writing about why you lack ideas. Or put more accurately, why you think you lack ideas. Do not overthink it, just start punching at your keyboard.

Step 2: Focus on writing about something your mind truly feels in that moment. Zoom in on your feelings. Allow your emotions flow freely from your heart to your fingers.

Step 3: Do not aim for perfection. Your goal should be to get into your zone. Once you are in your zone and flowing, every other thing starts to align.
