How to Use Habit Tracking to Build a Daily Writing Habit
Very simple, but it works…
Do not break the chain.
That should be your mantra when it comes to writing every day.
Make a habit of showing up everyday to do what you love.
It is easier said than done. But one simple way you can ensure you build an unbreakable habit of writing daily, is by tracking your habits.
James Clear explains that visual measures provide a clear evidence of your progress. As a result, they reinforce your behavior and add a little bit of immediate satisfaction to it.
As humans, the activities that motivate us are ones that offer immediate rewards. Keeping a habits tracker is one way to stimulate visual satisfaction.
You can get a calendar or design a habit tracker with Google Docs. And every time you write a complete article, you tick off the date of that day. Or, like Benjamin Franklin, you can use a journal to keep track of your progress daily.
The idea is to show up and reinforce your identity as a prolific writer, daily. As you continue to do this, not only will your writing get better, your discipline and consistency will inadvertently affect other areas of your life.
Do not bother about making it perfect. Be more bothered if you do not show up.
When you approach it with this mindset, writing becomes 10x easier and you write with less friction.
